The ZEISS SMILE Procedure During a ZEISS SMILE procedure, a lenticule is created inside the intact cornea using the ZEISS VisuMax femtosecond laser and extracted through a small incision. When the lenticule is removed, the desired vision correction is achieved. |

What is the difference between ZEISS SMILE and LASIK? ZEISS SMILE utilizes small lenticule extraction which is regarded as less invasive than LASIK. In ZEISS SMILE, the incision made is 2mm, as compared to an incision of 20mm in traditional LASIK – 10 times smaller. As a minimally invasive approach, ZEISS SMILE offers the potential for more biomechanical stability of the cornea. In addition, clinical recovery has also been shown to be faster. What’s more, clinical studies have shown that there is a lower incidence of transient dry eye syndrome. |
